Asim completed his schooling from St. Francis’ College, Lucknow, in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, he attended St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and earned a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.). In 1994, he joined the Indian Police Service. Subsequently, he also obtained a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Asim had a varied and very gratifying 30-year career in the IPS, having served as District Superintendent of Police in Tehri Garhwal, Balrampur, Hathras, Siddharth Nagar, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, and Agra, and then as the final posting as Commissioner of Police in Kanpur Nagar. When Asim filled out his options for the civil services exam, he opted for the Indian Police Service as his first choice, and that is what he got.
In 2004, Asim was the first IPS officer to successfully complete Black Cat Commando training with the National Security Guard (NSG). In the same year, he successfully completed the duties of a team member of the Close Protection Team of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Asim Arun Achievements
While working in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, he acquired very valuable experience in international security. As chief of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Uttar Pradesh, he led the operation to neutralise the ISIS terrorist Saifullah in Lucknow in March 2017, for which he received the President’s Gallantry Medal.
He created Sewa 100 in Aligarh in order to upgrade the Police Control Room in Uttar Pradesh. He expanded it to Gorakhpur and Agra, and, as part of that expansion, modern Police Control Rooms were established in Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar, Prayagraj, and Ghaziabad.
Besides being Director of UP-112 from 2019-2021, he also helped build the emergency service in 2018, which facilitated help in humanitarian aid and COVID-19 responses in UP-112 till today.
Asim Arun Political Career
Former Asim Arun ADG (Lucknow), resigned from the Indian Police Service in March 2022 to enter politics. He successfully ran for a seat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He is currently the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Social Welfare in the Second Yogi Adityanath ministry.
