Previous India National Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Timeline
2007 T20 World Cup final, Johannesburg
As India prepared to take on Pakistan in the opening fixture of the 2007 T20 World Cup. This match will definitely be the blockbuster one in India-Pakistan’s Rivalry. This is one of the most iconic matches from an Indian view as the Men In Blue won their first world cup since 1983. The MS Dhoni-led side showed the whole world what the ‘new India’ could achieve, as they entered the tournament, which was the first T20 World Cup, without big names. No Sachin Tendulkar, no Sourav Ganguly, no Rahul Dravid, no Anil Kumble; Dhoni and Co proved that India is beyond these great names.
2007 Ball Out, Durban
On their way to winning the tournament, they also played a memorable penalty shootout-like ball out, which has never happened in international cricket since then. India beat Pakistan 3-0 with Harbhajan Singh, Robin Uthappa and Virender Sehwag scoring their runs. Pakistan reached their target with Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul and Yasir Arafat getting off the mark.
Sachin Masterclass, Centurion
Sachin Tendulkar played one of the finest innings of the ODI World Cup in Centurion in 2003. Pakistan had set India a challenging target of 274 and with the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar in their ranks, India’s arch-rivals took the innings break confidently.
It all fell apart as soon as Tendulkar sprinted to drown Pakistan. His upper-cut six off Shoaib Akhtar in the second innings is sure to give any Indian fan goosebumps. He troubled their main bowlers and didn’t spare the other bowlers either. He played a blistering innings of 98 runs off just 75 balls.
Venky vs Sohail, Bangalore 1996
India won this epic battle of the 1996 ODI World Cup and knocked out the then champions Pakistan from the tournament. However, the highlight of the night was the fierce battle between India’s Venkatesh Prasad and Pakistan’s Aamir Sohail. During India’s chase of 287 against Pakistan, the two had several heated exchanges, with the Pakistani batsman dominating on most occasions.
Karachi 2004
This was India’s first tour of Pakistan for a bilateral series since 1997, and before that the Men in Blue had last visited their neighbours in 1989, when a young Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut.
The 5-match ODI series got off to a blistering start as India scored 349/7, with Rahul Dravid scoring 99. India would have been brimming with confidence with such a mammoth score, but the host had other plans. Skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq hit a brilliant 122 and was supported by useful contributions from Mohammad Yousuf (73), Younis Khan (46) and Abdul Razzaq (27 off 16).
History Behind India & Pakistan Matches As Global Sensation
The Cricket history of India vs Pakistan hails from the controversial debates of two countries’ division which was done at the time of India’s independence. Then, Kashmir became a topic of debate as Pakistan had to take it under their region while India says it is their country land which is somehow true as well. This is a basic reason for turning their face-off on the ground into global rivalries and India vs Pakistan matches are much more than just Cricket matches. People’s emotions are added towards that.
