Chaudhary Munawwar Hasan, Iqra’s father, was a Member of Parliament (MP). On May 15, 1964, he was born. From 2003 until 2007, he worked as a political activist in the government of Mulayam Singh Yadav. In 1991 and 1993, he was elected from the Kairana Assembly constituency to the State Legislative Assembly. He won the election in 1993 over Hukum Singh.

Iqra belongs to a politically strong background. She began her political career in 2016 and was inspired by her family. She lost by 5,000 votes in her first election as Zila Panchayat.
