Arunima Sinha Train Accident
Here we mention the Arunima Sinha Story: On April 12, 2011, Sinha, a former national football and volleyball player, left Lucknow for Delhi. She was traveling on the Padmavati Express train. Her goal was to attend a CISF recruitment exam. She was a general coach. Some hooligans tried to snatch her luggage and gold chain. They forced her off the train. She later shared what happened. She described the incident: “I resisted, and they pushed me out of the train. I could not move. I remember seeing a train coming towards me. I tried getting up. By then, the train had run over my leg. I don’t remember anything after that.”
Her leg was crushed below the knee due to another train passing on a parallel track. She had serious injuries to her pelvis and leg. To save her life, doctors had to amputate her leg.
The Indian Sports Ministry gave her ₹25,000 (US$290) as compensation. In response, Ajay Maken, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, stepped in. He recommended that she be given a job in the CISF. He also announced ₹200,000 (US$2,300) as extra medical help. Indian Railways also offered her a job.
Arunima Sinha Mount Everest Journey
After that horrible incident, Arunima wants to prove herself by climbing to the highest peak in the World, Mount Everest. That required hard training, preparation, and full dedication. Also, it needs physical strength, stamina, and mountain climbing skills. She was also selected by the CISF constable head in 2012 and became the first female amputee to join a paramilitary force.
Bachendri Pal was the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest. She trained Arunima for the same goal. The training took place at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi. She trained her body for high altitudes. She also climbed smaller Himalayan peaks as part of her training.
In 2013, Arunima was ready for Everest, and the TATA Steel Adventure Foundation selected her. They chose her for a 10-member expedition, and she began the climb on April 1. She started from the Nepal side, and the journey lasted 52 days.
Arunima climbed the deadly Khumbu Icefall. The journey was hard and dangerous. But on May 21, she reached the 29,029-foot summit of Everest. She made history and became the first female amputee to climb the world’s highest peak. She used a prosthetic leg. It was a big achievement. Her disability did not stop her. Her story is full of courage and strength. She proved that nothing is impossible.
